December 19th marks the fourth Sunday in Advent. Our reading/scripture pick from today's Worship Service was:

      For a child has been born for us, a Son given to us;
authority rests upon his shoulders; and he is named wonderful counselor,
mighty God, everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.
His authority shall grow continually, and there shall be endless peace
for the throne of David and his kingdom.
He will establish and uphold it with justice and righteousness
from this time onward and forevermore.
The zeal of the Lord of Hosts will do this.
                  -Isaiah 9:6-7

As you light the fourth candle:

We light this candle as a symbol of the Prince of Peace.
May the visitation of your Holy Spirit, O God,
make us ready for the coming of Jesus, our hope and joy...
      O come, O come Emmanuel

  • Poinsettias - This year we are inviting members of the congregation to bring a poinsettia to church for the holiday between 12/19 and 12/24. If anyone would like to have theirs shared as a memorial or in honor of anyone, please contact the office by Wednesday, so we can put it in the Christmas Eve bulletin

  • Christmas Eve Worship Service will be at 7:00 p.m.
  • Our church family was shook with the death of the infant granddaughter/daughter/niece of long-standing members of our church. Please keep this family in your prayers.

Selected Readings from Sunday, December 19, 2010 Worship Service:

            Micah 5:2-5a
            Luke 1:26-38

This year LUMC will be hosting the Community Thanksgiving Worship Service on Sunday, November 21, 2010 at 7:00 p.m.

Do you enjoy singing? Perhaps you've been wanting to lend your voice to the choir, but haven't wanted to get up that extra hour early to attend practice on Sunday mornings? Well, then here's your chance! If you arrive to the church at 5:00 p.m. on the 21st, then you can practice with the choir and sing with them during the service.

We are a mere week away from the start of our new Fall schedule, which includes the start-up of Sunday School, Choir practice resumes, and our Youth come together again on Sunday evenings.

In case you haven't caught all the notices, we've got a few scheduling changes in our midst:

Worship Service:
We will continue with the single worship service that we'd previously only utilized in the summer months. This is an exciting change for our church, as it will allow us to get to know all our fellow congregants, not just those who attend "our service."

New time: 9:45 - 10:45 a.m.

Gathering period:
There will be a 'gathering period' from 9:30 - 9:45 a.m., which will allow individuals to ease into their Sunday morning worship period.

This time will be used for special music, certain announcements, slide shows, etc.
**You should feel free to come, move about, visit, and ease into getting settled during this time.**

Sunday School:
Sunday School is also operating on a new schedule this year. We did send out surveys in order to pick the time that worked best for the majority of our families, but our responses were limited. However, the clear winner was:

8:30 - 9:30 a.m. We will meet in the chapel before splitting up into our classes.

Registration is available online this year.

Adult Education Class also begins on

Choir:
The choir will now be rehearsing from 8:30 - 9:30 a.m. each Sunday.
The choir is led under the direction of Sue Simons. She is hoping the merging of the two services will inspire more individuals to join the choir. They are always interested in new members.
Have questions before diving in? Then head over to our Music page to fill out that contact form.

MYF / Youth Group:
Our Youth Group will be starting back up on September 12th as well.

When do they meet? Sunday evenings in the basement from 5:00 - 7:00 p.m.

They start off the evening with a meal, and in addition to worship time, games are incorporated into the evenings as well.

Who can participate in MYF? Youth in 6th grade - Senior in High School are encouraged to come and check out the fun.

What about our college kids? Jennifer Draper runs a group for our college-age youth. Will post more information as we get it.

If you'll recall, earlier this year a questionnaire was put out to the congregation seeking opinions about an adapted Worship Service schedule - moving from two services during the school year to one. At the Administrative Council meeting on Monday, July 27th, a new Fall Worship schedule was voted on and called into action - per the resounding majority response.

Beginning on Sunday, September 12, 2010 Worship will start at 9:45 a.m. with a 15 minute gathering time prior to that. The gathering time will offer music, announcements, getting settled in, etc.

This change in schedule means a change for our Sunday School schedule as well. We would greatly appreciate your input on what time would work best for your family. Click here to complete the survey. The majority choice will be put into action for this Sunday School season so please be sure to provide your input. We will be sending a survey in the mail as well.

This is an exciting change for our church, as we'll have greater opportunity to get to know each other rather than being separated by those who attend early/late church. This decision was not made lightly and is one that has been discussed endlessly over the years and the Council felt this was an important move for the vitality of the church. It is not a matter of having a full house or 'looking full,' so much as creating a shared environment as we grow together in our faith.

Introduction:
For several years now a great deal of interest has been expressed for having only one Sunday Worship Service-year round. (Presently, from Memorial Day weekend thru Labor Day weekend we have one service at 9:30 a.m., while the remainder months of the year we have the 8:30 a.m. service followed by Sunday School at 9:30 a.m., and a second worship service at 10:45 a.m.)

This questionnaire addresses our regular Sunday worship schedule from September through May, the summer worship schedule would remain the same.
