December 19th marks the fourth Sunday in Advent. Our reading/scripture pick from today's Worship Service was: For a child has been born for us, a Son given to us; authority rests upon his shoulders; and he is named wonderful counselor, mighty God, everlasting Father, Prince of Peace. His authority shall grow continually, and there shall be endless peace for the throne of David and his kingdom. He will establish and uphold it with justice and righteousness from this time onward and forevermore. The zeal of the Lord of Hosts will do this. -Isaiah 9:6-7 As you light the fourth candle: We light this candle as a symbol of the Prince of Peace. May the visitation of your Holy Spirit, O God, make us ready for the coming of Jesus, our hope and joy... Today's service marked the first day of Sunday School and Choir practice for the Fall season. Sunday School had 23 kids in attendance and the choir sounded wonderful during Worship service. Today's sermon followed Pastor Jones' series on focusing on key beliefs and values within our Christian life. (To read more on this, check out the Pastor's blog).
What an uplifting service today! Pews were full, bright and bouncy songs were sung, and the necessary reminder that we are indeed the "Light of the world" was delivered. Pastor Jones prompted us to remember that we each have something to offer this world in which we live, a gift we need to use to help carry on the Good Word. Whatever gifts God has blessed you with, don't forget to brush them off and use them as He intended! In accordance with one of the songs we sang:
This little light of mine, I'm gonna let it shine, let it shine, let it shine, let it shine! Every where I go, I'm gonna let it shine, let it shine, let it shine! All through the night, I'm gonna let it shine, let it shine, let it shine, let it shine!
The selected readings during the June 27th service were:
Isaiah 49:5-6 Luke 9:51-62
