Friends in Mission:
As we continue to get more news from Haiti, we all want to know what we can do to help.  I have been in conversation with Brian Diggs, the head of UMCOR Depot West in SLC.

First, I want you to know that you have already made a difference.  ALL the health kits and supplies that we assembled and gathered last spring in Yellowstone Conference are being flown out on Monday to Haiti.

Secondly, I want to remind you that 100% of the donations to the Haiti Emergency Advance # 418325 go directly to relieving the suffering in Haiti.  It is your support of the One Great Hour of Sharing that provides the administrative costs for UMCOR.

Ways to respond to this disaster:

1)      Pray for the people of Haiti, the families of those who have loved ones missing, our UMCOR
staff that are missing and the VIM teams in Haiti.

 2)  Donations to the Haiti Emergency, UMCOR Advance # 418325.  Checks can be made to UMCOR with Advance #418325 Haiti Emergency in the memo line. Checks can be put in the church's offering plate or mailed to UMCOR, PO Box 9068, New York, NY 10087. Online gifts can be made at http://www.umcorhaiti.org
3)      UMCOR is in need of health kits.  The SLC Depot will send every health kit they have.  If you want to donate money to UMCOR specifically for health kit supplies, use Advance # 901440.
If you want to gather kit supplies or assemble kits go to: http://new.gbgm-umc.org/umcor/getconnected/supplies/health-kit. for information on how to do that.  The guidelines are very specific.  Any kits assembled now may or may not actually go to Haiti.  But, we need to help resupply the depot for this disaster - or the next.

Because of this disaster we will once again be gathering health kit supplies at annual conference and assembling health kits at the mission festivals this spring.  A Volunteers in Mission team will take the supplies to SLC after annual conference and spend about a week there working.  Watch for details in the Connection and on the website.

4)      Consider a project with your church raising money for Haiti in the community.  Cover cans or boxes with photos from Haiti and make a slot for donations and place in local businesses. Post information about United Methodist Committee on Relief (UMCOR) with the Advance #.  Explain that 100% of any money donated goes to relieving the suffering in Haiti (because other fund raising pays administrative costs)  Have checks made out to UMCOR.
*(To this end, the children's Sunday School is going to dedicate the month of February to
supporting this mission. More details to come).*
